On July 23, 2024, Viola G. Otero "Nana", age 83, was received in heaven by our Lord. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther J. Otero; her parents, Santana and Domingo Ulibarri and by her brother, Domingo Ulibarri Jr. She is survived by her two daughters, Yolanda (Otero) Pickup and husband Richard and Yvette Otero; two granddaughters, Linda Lee and A'Lisa Krek; three great grandchildren, Aria Gonzales, Artist Gonzales and Ivy Apodoca; her brother, Michael Ulibarri; sister, Yvonne Ulibarri; as well as many nieces, nephews; other family members and friends who loved and will miss her greatly.

Viola was born on September 3, 1940, in Tucumcari, New Mexico. As a young girl, Viola grew to love Mariachi music, as her parents would often take her to see Mariachi's play. Viola loved singing and after moving to Albuquerque with her husband in 1959 where she would raise her family, she would work for Ruppe B drug store and then Christy records. Viola knew all the new artists and customers would often seek her out for music. Viola would become involved with the Albuquerque Mariachi Spectacular conferences. She would volunteer her time with her husband and become known as one of the "Mariachi Angels."

Walk In Sunshine

May you always walk in sunshine
and God's love around you flow,
for the happiness you gave us,
no one will ever know.
It broke our hearts to lose you,
but you did not go alone,
a part of us went with you,
the day God called you home.
A million times we needed you,
a million times we've cried.
If love could only have saved you,
you never would have died.
The Lord be with you and
may you rest in peace.
