Thomas R. Brown (Tom), aged 64, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, after a short battle with brain cancer. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Joan Brown, and their three children, Isaac Brown of Albuquerque, Nicholas Brown of Fairfax, VA, and Emily Brown of Boston, MA. Tom also leaves behind his two brothers, Mark Brown of Chandler, AZ, and Eric Brown of Allen, TX, along with numerous friends and relatives.

Born in Ft. Dodge, IA, Tom grew up in Bloomington, IL, where he attended Bloomington High School and completed his Bachelor's and Master's degrees at Illinois State University in Normal, IL. He earned a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of New Mexico and worked as a research scientist for various companies in Albuquerque, NM. Tom's passion for education led him to become a respected professor at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, NM, where he taught mathematics and computer science. He served as the chair of several departments and as Assistant Dean during his tenure. Following his retirement from ENMU, Tom joined the High Performance Computing Center at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX, where he worked for three years. Ultimately, he returned to Albuquerque, NM, to work at MZA Associates as a senior scientist.

Tom had a genuine affection for Albuquerque and found immense joy in reconnecting with old friends and forging new friendships. He was an intellectual who found pleasure engaging in thought-provoking discussions, playing board games, poker, Magic the Gathering, and other card games. Tom enjoyed hiking, exploring new destinations, appreciating music, and watching movies. His deepest love, however, was reserved for his wife, children, family, and the multitude of friends who enriched his life. Known for his playful and goofy sense of humor, Tom never failed to entertain those around him, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he encountered.

Our family finds solace in the knowledge that Tom is at peace. A memorial service will be held at the First Unitarian Church in Albuquerque on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 1:00 pm, and we extend an invitation to all who wish to pay their respects and celebrate Tom's life.
