Ronald Harold Hartenberger

07/18/1943 – 03/14/2023

Ron….Ronnie….Brother Ron….Uncle Ron…. departed peacefully for the beginning of his heavenly journey on Tuesday, March 14, 2023. Ron and his twin brother, Donald Paul, were born prematurely in Amarillo, Texas, to Floranna and Martin Hartenberger, the oldest of seven children. Sadly, Donald died at birth and Ron suffered profound hearing loss at that time, but resolved to live life fully, supported by family.

Ron spent his formative years in Wichita, Kansas, graduating from East High. He continued his education and training at Central New Mexico Community College (TVI) and worked as a machinist for several years prior to beginning employment at Sandia National Laboratory. He was a Senior Technical Associate at the lab for 31 years, retiring in 2006. He was well respected for his precise technical expertise and capabilities. He exhibited a strong work ethic and dedication to the job at hand. He was often underappreciated for his intellect because of his hearing difficulties.

Ron had unfiltered love, fierce loyalty, generosity and big-hearted self-sacrifice for his extended family. He was an integral part of family gatherings even up to the time of his death.  He was a devoted son to his parents, especially caring for his Mother for the last ten years of her life, including providing hospice care.

His hobbies and avocations included: wood carving, making his own furniture, scuba diving, fishing and hunting with his brothers, collecting Hot Wheels, watching old Westerns (Bonanza, Maverick), playing Dominoes, laughing at Rockford Files, and trying to outwit his mischievous dog, Molly.

Above all, Ron loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

Survivors include his siblings, Harriet (Nick), Dave (Carol), Jonathan (Lynn), Timothy (Dayle), and Joan (John). He also leaves behind sixteen nieces and nephews, Jonathan, Peter, Amy, Erich, Jessica, Joel, Tamara, Galen, Johanna, Rachel, Rebekah, Jerrod, Kristen, Jason, Molly, and Evan.

Ron is greatly loved here and above and will be missed by his family, his friends, his Messiah Lutheran Church family and his La Vida Llena community of neighbors.

A Memorial Service will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church, 11515 Lomas Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM, 87112, on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 10:00 am.

A Celebration of Life will be held at La Vida Llena Retirement Community, 10501 Lagrima de Oro Rd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111 and will be announced on the Community Board.
