His Final Salute

Rogers passed away peacefully while sleeping in the early hours of September 5, 2025. Rogers Earl Brumfield was born on June 4, 1947, and was raised in Bogalusa, Louisiana. Rogers completed high school. He served his country with dignity and strength by enlisting into the United States Army, serving two tours of duty working as 55B Ammunition Specialist, 64C Motor Transportation Operator, and 12B Combat Engineer. He was deployed during Vietnam. His final duty station was at Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma as part of the Battery A, 2nd Battalion, 34th Field Artillery Regiment. He was discharged under Honorable Conditions. Rogers worked offshore out of Houma, Louisiana for a period, but later made his permanent home in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

He was preceded in death by his wife Audrey Brumfield, his mother, Mary Elizabeth Holmes Brumfield; his father, James "Jamie" Brumfield; his sisters, Wessie Mae Jackson Anderson and Willie Mae Brumfield; and his brother, Charles Edward Brumfield. He leaves to cherish his memory: his sister, Pauletta McNair Williams of Houston, Texas, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

His legacy lives in the hearts of those who knew him, in the laughter he sparked in ways only he could, and in the legendary stubbornness that made every debate memorable. He wasn't one to move from his viewpoint easily. He held his ground one way or another. He had an uncanny gift for recalling childhood memories, often repeating them with vivid detail and affection. He lived with conviction, never one to be swayed, and those who knew him wouldn't have had it any other way.

He meant well. And that meant something.

The interment will be held at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 Fort Hood St., Killeen, TX 76542, on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, 1:00 pm with US Army Honors.
