Ricky Lee Poolaw
March 2, 1953 – July 25, 2026
With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Ricky Lee Poolaw, age 73, on July 25, 2026.
A man of faith, service, and unwavering devotion to his family and community, Ricky lived a life that touched countless hearts.
Born in Lawton, Oklahoma, and an enrolled member of the Kiowa Tribe, Ricky proudly served 25 years with the New Mexico State Police. He also served as a D.A.R.E. Officer. He later served as President of the Albuquerque Kiowa Connection for 25 years, was an usher at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus, Sandoval County Sheriff's Posse, New Mexico Police Association, and the Sandoval County Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Ricky also served as a football and basketball coach and substitute teacher; these were many of the things he loved and enjoyed.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy Poolaw; children, Laurinda Savilla, Chara Poolaw, Brandie Poolaw and Marcella Poolaw; grandchildren, Jasmine Archuleta, Ricky Poolaw, Ella Poolaw, Adelina Lucero and Ricardo Poolaw; great-granddaughter, Esperanza Griego-Archuleta; brother, Ralph Emerson Poolaw Jr.; and many extended family members and friends who loved and will miss him greatly.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ella Alice Tahbone Poolaw; 11 brothers and sisters; granddaughter, Krystle Savilla; grandsons, Brandon Moonlight Poolaw and Yosvani Poolaw-Martinez; and by his great-great-grandson, Xavier Gabriel Martinez.
Services will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 301 S. Camino del Pueblo, Bernalillo, NM. The viewing will begin on Friday, August 7, 2026 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. The Rosary will be recited 7:00 pm.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 8, 2026, 10:00 am with the final visitation beginning at 9:00. New Mexico State Police Honors will then provide Honors.
Following the Funeral Mass and New Mexico State Police Honors, family and friends are invited to the Our Lady of Sorrows Church Social Center for a reception.
The Poolaw family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone for the outpouring of prayers, love, and support we have received.
