Richard Sanchez

Age 76, of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 3, 2025. He was born on August 26, 1948, in the Bronx, New York, to Manuel and Esperanza Sanchez. Richard moved with his family to Miami, Florida, in 1953, where he grew up and later forged a legacy that would impact many.

Richard's passion for aircraft mechanics led him to pursue studies at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, following high school. After two years of college, he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1968, where he served proudly for 22 years. Richard retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 2 in 1990, after a distinguished career that included roles in Hawk Missile Control, Military Intelligence, and Counterintelligence. His final years in the military were spent as a contracted instructor at the Interagency Training Center, teaching technical security countermeasures. His commitment to service, deep pride in his military career, and gratitude for his country were evident to all who met him.

Beyond his military career, Richard had many passions. His love for computers led him and his wife, Candace, to establish their own BBS company, C&R Systems, in 1988. He also had a deep affinity for aviation, becoming a private pilot and even owning a Cessna 150 two-seater airplane. His enthusiasm for flying extended to Candace, who also became a private pilot, encouraged by Richard's passion.

Photography was another of Richard's great loves. From a young age, his eye for detail and artistry shone through, earning him recognition for his work. Richard was particularly known for his photography of the dogs at Tales of Joy in Rio Rancho, where he captured their personalities with stunning skill. Gardening was another passion, and no matter the season or temperature, he could always be found tending to his plants.
Perhaps one of his most cherished roles was as a loving dog parent. Over 38 years, Richard and Candace opened their hearts and home to 10 dogs, including fostering a few along the way. Richard's bond with his black lab, Snickers, and his current therapy dog, Molly, was particularly special.

Richard is survived by his wife of 56 years, Candace Sanchez; daughter, Kimberly Sanchez-Beaver; granddaughter, Toryann Beaver; grandson, Jesse Sanchez; and sister, Lillian Mallett. He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Esperanza Sanchez, and his son, Vincent Sanchez.

Richard unknowingly built a lasting legacy through the lives he touched. To his family, he leaves behind cherished traditions, stories from his childhood and Army days, life lessons, values, and ethics. To his friends, he leaves the memory of his unwavering integrity, mentorship, and genuine friendship. And to all who encountered him, he instilled a spirit of helping others and the strength to persevere, no matter the challenge.
In accordance with Richard's wishes, the family has opted not to hold a service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mesa Baptist Church, 1411 Golf Course Rd SE, Rio Rancho, NM 87124
