Richard (Dickie) Sanchez

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard (Dickie) Sanchez our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and padrino to many individuals. He passed away with his family by his side on Thursday, March 20th 2025.

He was born on December 21, 1939 in El Barrio de San Jose in Albuquerque, New Mexico, attended Lincoln Junior High School and graduated 1959 from Albuquerque High.

In 1960 Richard married Enedina Sisneros of Colonias, New Mexico. Together, they proudly raised two sons, Richard L and Donald E and his wife Sandra.

In 1962 he was drafted into the United States Army where he Honorably served his country from 1962 until 1968. Following his military service, Richard was employed and retired from the City of Albuquerque after 20 plus years. As well he was an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in the North Valley.

Among his numerous talents Richard will be most remembered for his God given ability to master multiple instruments such as guitar, piano, as well as trumpet, sax, and drums, along with many other instruments he put his mind to. But, as described by our late Uncle Fidel, "he had a velvet voice", which was displayed in multiple bands throughout his life. He was always a hit at his favorite karaoke spot Post 69. He had the ability to instantly become the life of the party by picking up a guitar or sitting behind a random piano taking requests

Richard was also a great athlete and was told by many people he could play any sport that required a ball. He was a 5-time national champion with his senior softball team he enjoyed traveling with for many years.

Proudly, Richard was trilingual and could speak English, Spanish and Calo (Pachuco), which was useful in so many different ways. He was also a positive influence to the many people he encountered and Richard set individuals off to career path through his encouragement. He was little league baseball and Allstar coach, coached YAFL and won a Super Bowl in the 70's.

His Funeral Services will be as follows: A Rosary will be recited at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1860 Griegos Rd. NW in Albuquerque on Thursday, April 3rd , 2025 at 7:00pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the San Jose Mission Church in Colonias, New Mexico on Saturday April 5th, 2025 10:00am. The interment will follow in the Mission Cemetery with US Army Honors.
