Richard Max Ellis

Richard Max Ellis, age 88, of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026.

Born on March 3, 1938, to Earl Max Ellis and Pauline Ellis, farmers from Idaho, Richard lived a life defined by hard work, kindness, and unwavering devotion to his family.

Richard had a lifelong passion for automobiles, football, boating, and fishing. Growing up on the family ranch in Idaho, he developed a love for restoring classic cars, a hobby that reflected his many talents, patience, and appreciation for craftsmanship. One of his lesser-known accomplishments was competing in the Baja 500, a testament to his adventurous spirit and determination. He was also a successful businessman who owned and operated a gas station and automotive machine shop in Corrales, New Mexico, for many years. Later, he worked for Aeroparts in Rio Rancho until his retirement.

Some of Richard's happiest years were spent traveling throughout the United States and Mexico in his fifth-wheel trailer, often with his fishing boat in tow. He loved spending time on the water, and when he wasn't fishing, he could often be found cheering on his beloved Denver Broncos. Whether casting a line, watching a Broncos game, or sharing stories with family and friends, Richard found joy in life's simple pleasures.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Max Ellis and Pauline Ellis; his beloved uncle, Jake Tennant; and his grandson, Alexander Richards.

Above all else, Richard treasured his family. He is lovingly survived by his wife, Crestella Ellis; his children, Terri (Richard) Zimmerman, Robert Vialpando (Michelle Veresan), Kathy (William) Walker, Monica Cordova (Ramon Nevarez); and his brother, William (Hazel) Ellis.

He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren: Jason Richards (Jamie Gaston), Krista Williams, Timmy Vialpando Jr., Michael Anthony Vialpando, Roger Modesto Vialpando, Erik Walker, Pablo Lujan, Felipe Cordova and Juan Nevarez (Dedra Perea).

His treasured great-grandchildren include Rhayne Conrad, Liam Richards, Aiden Oswald, Aalyiah Lundberg, Dominic Lujan, Mia Lujan, Nadia Cordova, Esperanza Cordova, Mardoqueo Cordova and Xavier Nevarez. He was also the proud great-great-grandfather of Kahlan Marquez and a loving uncle to Virginia Gutierrez, along with many other nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Though he is no longer with us, Richard's legacy lives on through the family he loved so deeply and the countless lives he touched throughout his 88 years. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, generous heart, adventurous spirit, and the love he shared so freely with family and friends.

Funeral and memorial service arrangements will be announced by the family at a later date.
