Ramona Atencio, age 97, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2022.  She was surrounded by her family, and we are so thankful to have spent her last hours comforting and holding her.  She was born and raised in Canjilon, NM.

Ramona was preceded in death by her son, Steve Atencio; parents, Cristobal and Ascencion Martinez; siblings, Adela Trujillo, Tevano Martinez, Olojia Abeyta, Mabel Velasquez, Cordelia Williams, Clyde Martinez and Willie Martinez. She is survived by her sister, Magdalena Chavez; her children, Rebecca Crespin-Ortega and Julian, Joseph Esquibel and Ida, Bonnie Borrego and Ben, Liz Lawrence and John Horton, Christine Stout and Tim, Cathy Sanchez, Bobbi Johnson and Ladd, Jake Atencio and Kathy, Michelle Atencio and Leonard Duran, and great-grandson Chad Crespin. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Our beloved and cherished mother, grandmother, sister and aunt was strong, beautiful and so full of life.  She had a great sense of humor and a great love for life.  Ramona raised loving and amazing children of whom she was incredibly proud and loved so very much.  Mom liked to sew and made the most beautiful quilts; she loved reading, camping, playing poker and going to the casino; she enjoyed ranchera and country music; she loved her coffee and cookies in the morning; and she really enjoyed her Bailey's Irish Whiskey!

A memorial service will be held at Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church, 1801 Montano Rd. NW., on Friday, January 27, 2023 at 2:00 pm. A reception will follow the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
