Olav Vincent Olsen "Ollie" pronounced (oh-lee)

Olav Vincent Olsen, known by everyone as "Ollie," passed away peacefully on March 11, 2025, at the age of 77. He was born on June 14, 1947, in Teaneck, New Jersey.

At the age of nine, Ollie's family relocated to Florida, where he spent his formative years before attending Auburn University in Alabama. There, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and was an active member of the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC).

After graduation, Ollie served in the United States Navy from 1969 to 1973. During his service, he attended submarine and nuclear power school, learning the necessary skills to serve with distinction as a Lieutenant aboard the USS Henry Clay, a nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine.

Throughout his life, Ollie was known for his quiet demeanor, intelligence, and unwavering dedication to both his family and his work. He had many passions, including bird watching, turning custom wood pens, and enjoying the great outdoors. Ollie was also deeply passionate about board games, books, and puzzles, often spending hours enjoying his favorite games or working through intricate puzzles. His goofy, dry sense of humor and easygoing nature earned him the love and respect of all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Ollie is survived by his ex-wife and great friend Diane Olsen, his daughter Amy Dawson, his son Olav "Ollie" Olsen, and his two younger sisters, Ann Evans and Kathleen Dean. He is also survived by his three beloved grandchildren: Jayce Dawson (13), Kaylen Dawson (12), and Anders Olsen (9 months).

A private service will be held for close family and friends to honor Ollie's memory and celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, please play a board game with friends and family in his honor.

Ollie will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His legacy of love, service, and wisdom will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
