Obituary

Mary Ann (Johnson) Good died on Thursday, September 5, 2024 under hospice care at her home in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Mary Ann was born July 1, 1947 in Watertown, South Dakota to parents Clifford and Victoria (Fogelberg) Johnson. Her first four years were spent on her parents' farm near Ortley, SD. After the untimely deaths of her father in 1951 and mother in 1952, Mary Ann, along with older brother David, and younger sister Vivian, lived with their maternal grandparents, David and Anna Fogelberg and uncles Harold, Henry, and Elmer Fogelberg on a farm near Stockholm, SD.

She graduated from South Shore High School in 1965 and South Dakota State University in 1969, where she majored in journalism.

After graduation she moved to Gillette, WY and worked as a reporter for the local newspaper. While there she met David B. Good and they were married in Gillette on October 13, 1973. They lived in Sylacauga, AL for three years and then moved to David's hometown of Grants, NM.

Mary Ann was a long-time employee of Stewart Brothers Drilling in nearby Milan, NM. During her time living in Grants she was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and The Red Hat Society. She was also an active member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, where she was involved in many activities including teaching Sunday School to neighborhood children and serving as a substitute pianist. Mary Ann was an animal lover, and had many dogs and cats over the years. She remained in Grants until May 2022 when, due to declining health, she moved to an assisted living home in Albuquerque.

Although she suffered many health problems during her life, she was always upbeat and cheerful, and she had a positive attitude. Her cup was definitely half-full, and her optimistic outlook inspired those around her. The joy she found in everyday life will be deeply missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents, her husband David in 2009, and her sister Vivian Maps in 2019. She is survived by her brother, David J. Johnson (Norma) and their children, David M. Johnson, Daniel Johnson (Kim), Deborah Wamre (Shannon) and Diana Reents (Bradley); brothers-in-law Michael Maps, Donald Good, John Good (Cheryl), and Rex Good (Doris), sister-in-law Robin Garner, and her husband's nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at First United Methodist Church, 510 First St., Grants, NM. Cremation has taken place and inurnment will follow on a later date near her parents and other relatives in Bergen Lutheran Cemetery, rural South Shore, SD.
