Marie Y. Martinez
February 13, 1957 - August 31, 2024

Marie passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, August 31st 2024. She was able to spend the few days prior, saying her good-byes to several, if not all, of her family members and friends. Her wishes were that if she were to ever pass "I want to be at home and surrounded by whoever wanted to be here." It was an honor to say that many family members and friends came without question, with love and support. She also had many phone calls with loved ones who were far away. Marie was so happy to talk to everyone. It is believed by many of us that the day she passed and the days prior that she also had her mother, son, sisters, nephews, nieces and God himself waiting to greet her when she was ready to go home to them.

Marie was the most loving, caring, and dedicated daughter. She devoted her life to taking care of her mother and was proud of it.
After her mom passed in 2021, Marie spent the next 3 years spreading the same love and care to the rest of her family. Marie worked hard to take care of herself and most importantly, make memories with her family.

She loved going to events, festivals and parties with anyone who invited her. Marie spent birthdays at the Casinos with several siblings, nieces and family members. Holidays were always huge in decor and very detailed as she wasted no time getting ready for holidays early and setting up for which one was next. One of the biggest traditions any family member can tell you about Marie was her delicious ham.  She always made the best ham for the holidays, and it was something everyone looked forward to, and were never disappointed. She also made one randomly throughout the year which was greatly appreciated. Whenever Marie would go anywhere, she always looked so stylish and would be a trend setter. She didn't even know at times she was following the 2000's trends, when she would walk into a party with her cute dress and converse. Marie always did cute fun things, because she loved to have fun, be happy and make people happy. She is the one on the road with eyelashes on her mini cooper and loved it when you commented on them.
There are so many other things and stories we can share about how beautiful and special she was.
Marie was preceded in death by all 3 of her parents, Reynaldo Martinez, Josephina Zamora and Tony Zamora; her son, Dominic B. Tafoya; her four siblings, Kathy, JoAnne, Rey Robert, and Deborah Martinez.  She is also preceded in death by the father of her Three Sons Johnny Tafoya.

Marie is survived by many family members and friends who loved and will miss her greatly.

Services will be held at St. Anne's Catholic Church, 1400 Arenal Rd. SW on Thursday, September 12, 2024. The Rosary will be recited at 8:15 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. She will then be laid to rest following services at San Jose de Armijo Cemetery, 2957 Arenal Rd. SW. Pallbearers will be Johnny C.  Tafoya, Daniel Tafoya, Richard Baldonado, Esteban Gonzales, Richard Mirabal and Reynaldo Mestas.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Robert Martinez, Joseph Martinez and Jerry Martinez.

After the burial at San Jose Cemetery, please come and join us at the Parish Hall building behind St. Anne's Catholic Church for some food and refreshments and to share all the ways she had touched your heart like she did ours for so long.
