Maria Antonia Chavez

February 24, 1927 - January 28, 2024

In loving memory of Antonia Chavez, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, who peacefully transitioned to the arms of our heavenly Father at the age of 96, surrounded by her adoring family at home.

Antonia was born and raised in Cuba, New Mexico. She shared 62 beautiful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Ernesto Lionel Chavez. A devoted member of the Immaculate Conception Parish, Antonia actively contributed to her community as a charter member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She lent her voice to the parish choir, volunteered for various organizations, and was a proud Guadalupano member. Antonia's generous spirit and willingness to help others were evident throughout her life.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth, having touched the lives of countless family members, treasured friends, and community members. Antonia was preceded in death by her parents, Romolo Chavez and Adelaida Sandoval; her husband, Lionel Chavez; sisters, Preciliana Christilaw (Richard) and Albertina Carabajal (Gilbert), and by her nephew, Dennis Carabajal.

Antonia is survived by her devoted daughter, Adelaida (Liddy) Padilla, and a loving array of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry forward her memory;  Timothy Padilla (Marguerite),  Carla Glidewell (Shad), Roberta Cohen (Thomas), Susan Reina (Michael), Jessica Padilla (Jeffrey Campbell); 8 great grandchildren, Daniel Masse, Lance Padilla, Lynnsey and Rhegan Glidewell, Aundria and Erick Cohen, Evan and Brock Reina and numerous beloved nieces, nephews and godchildren.

A viewing will take place at the Immaculate Conception Church (6440 US 550, Cuba, NM). on Tuesday, February 13th, starting at 9:30 am, followed by a Rosary at 10:00 am led by the Catholic Daughters of America and the Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am. The procession will proceed to the Santa Fe National Cemetery for her interment at 2:30 pm, and a reception will follow at the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) (3300 Calle Maria Luisa #3 Santa Fe, NM).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Immaculate Conception Church in Cuba, New Mexico. Antonia's legacy of kindness, faith, and community service will forever be remembered.
