Margaret Mary Shanfeldt

Marge Shanfeldt, nee Gauthier, was born in New Buffalo, Michigan to the late Denis and Theresa Gauthier on November 05, 1939. Marge gained her angel wings on Friday, August 23, 2024, peacefully, at home with family, at the age of 84.

Marge grew up in New Buffalo, later moving to Chicago, Illinois. In June of 1969 she married Dennis and they recently celebrated their 55th Wedding Anniversary. In the summer of 1970, they moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico and in 1987 moved to Moriarty.

Marge was very involved in her community, with long-term volunteer activities: Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church (multiple roles), Moriarty Community Library (multiple roles), Moriarty Historical Society and Museum, Bethel Community Store House, Board Member of the Read "Write" Adult Literacy Program, Moriarty Garden Club, City of Moriarty Planning and Zoning Commission Board Member, and served for many years as an Election Worker for Torrance County. She also volunteered her time and love at the University of New Mexico Hospital (BCMC), in the New Born Intensive Care Unit as a "Cuddler" for a time.

Marge was very steadfast in her service to others, and her Catholic faith was at the forefront of how she lived her life.

Marge retired from Hallmark Cards, where she was a Regional Representative in the state of New Mexico.

Marge was a devoted wife to Dennis, loving mother to her daughter Patrice Barstow-Kelly, and a beloved grandmother to her grandson Nicklaus Gauthier.

Services will be held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church 215 Girard Ave. Moriarty, NM 87035 on Friday, September 6, 2024. The Rosary will be recited at 10:00 am. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 am. There will be a meal immediately following in the Parrish Hall, by Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Ladies Society.
