SUBER- Lewis Adolphus Suber Jr., 86, an Albuquerque resident since 1961, died Tuesday, September 1, 2026. He is survived by his brother Rick Charles Suber of Jackson Miss., his son Michael Suber and wife Lorraine of Albuquerque, NM, son Kevin Suber and wife Ana of Arlington, Texas, son Chad Suber and wife Christine of Phoenix, AZ, daughter Melissa Suber of Valencia, CA, daughter Colleen McGlone of Myrtle Beach S.C., he is survived by several grandchildren Christopher, Angelica, Mason, Justin, Chase, Bella, and Tyler., cousins Jimmy Suber , Will and Ann Rumbavage, Ethel Rumbavage, and Christy Reppeto. He is survived by his partner Melissa Wilson and daughter Maggie whom he shared his life with for 30 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents Willie Thomson and Lewis Adolphus Suber Sr. of Jackson, Mississippi. Lew was an exceptional student in high school and college; he achieved his Eagle Scout award from the Boy Scouts of America by the age of 18. He attended Mississippi State and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering having been on the Deans academic achievement list. Soon after finishing college, he enlisted in the NMANG serving with the 150th Combat Support Squadron/Tactical Fighter Group as a SSGT. His unit was put on alert during the Cuban missile crisis until the crisis was resolved diplomatically. That same year in 1961 he was hired at Sandia National Laboratories working in the atomic weapons program in Albuquerque, NM. He and his wife Margaret Ann called Albuquerque home from that point onward. During his employment with Sandia, he earned his master’s degree in science and worked for Sandia Labs for 34 years in total. Following his retirement from the labs he decided to pursue a second career in Emergency Medical Services obtaining a paramedic license. He worked for Albuquerque Ambulance Service for 14 years. He was a member of the New Mexico Disaster Medical Team and went to New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina to help people in distress in the Superdome. Lew had many hobbies and interests during his lifetime. His love for literature was paramount in his life. He owned thousands of books during his lifetime and read insatiably. He was a very talented woodworker passed down by his father. There were not many things that he could not troubleshoot and repair. He enjoyed hot air ballooning, traveling abroad, motorcycling, fishing, cycling, running, camping, contra dancing, senior choir, volunteering at the zoo and Roadrunner Food Bank, and tutoring children in math and reading.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be planned for some time in the coming months for friends and family. We are thankful for the wonderful friends that Lew had and were able to visit him before he passed. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
