Mom and Dad headed out on their final adventure together

Len Morrison 6/16/33 – 2/19/24 Irma Morrison 5/7/35 – 2/24/24

Both passed peacefully in their home surrounded by loving family and friends under the wonderful care of Hospice De La Luz staff.

Len was born in Missouri in 1933. Following graduation, he spent 4 yrs in the US Navy. It was while stationed in Albuquerque that he met and ultimately married Irma Mae Lundy.

Len worked for Sandia Labs for 33 yrs. retiring in 1991. Following retirement, he pursued woodworking and cabinet building for friends and family. He was also an avid golfer and loved Lobo Basketball.

Irma was born in Weatherford, OK in 1935. Her family migrated to Albuquerque when she was a small child. She graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1953 and worked as a cashier at American Furniture. She met and married Len in 1955. Following the birth of her first child she changed from cashier to full time mommy and homemaker. After all her children were grown, she again worked for American Furniture as a credit manager. In the late 1990's she ran Quick Return Tax service. It was there she met her dear long time friend, Josefa Tarin. They remained close until moms death. Irma was also an avid bowler. Didn't matter what was happening in the world or the weather, she was darn sure going bowling! She loved all her bowling buddies. As well, she was an avid gardener and maintained ¼ acre garden every year, just like her daddy did; sharing her bounty or canning most of what came out of the garden. She hated weeds and had a close brutal relationship with her "HULA" hoe. You'd be hard pressed to find a stray weed on her property.

Both were great athletes. They were very involved in women's fastpitch softball. Dad coached and mom played any position he needed her to fill. Their team won the 1968 state championship. They enjoyed travel to Hawaii and Mexico. Len was posted in Australia for 2 yrs. supervising a satellite relay station. In Woomera, a small military town on the edge of the outback, they had many adventures and made many dear friends. They grew their beloved green chili and introduced the Aussies to NM food. Probably against the law but oh well. Dad subsequently had to padlock the garden to keep people from stealing the chile off the plants. Mom also raised an orphaned baby kangaroo. Aussie Matilda lived in a pillowcase hanging from a door knob unless she was following mom around like a puppy.

Yes, they lived a full, exciting life and they did it together for 68 yrs., through thick and thin!

They are survived by their three daughters; Lynnette Wallner and husband Jon, Sandra Smederovac and husband Steve, Trish Metz and husband Robert; nephew, Harold Lundy and wife Gayle. Harold was the son dad never had and is more like a brother than a cousin to us. Finally, Mom's daughter from another mother, Josefa Tarin. Her dear friend and the daughter of her heart. They are also survived by 9 grandchildren; 14 greatgrandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. They will be dearly missed by all.

The family would like to wish a special thanks to Hospice De Luz, including her phenomenal nurse, Desi, Pastor Kurt, Kristen, Danielle and Kris. We couldn't have done it without their loving support. Special mention to our sweet cousin, Diane Yarbrough. Her calm demeanor helps us all emotionally and physically through this process. She and her sweet dog, Russ, were the BEST! Additionally, the "lady across the street", Linda, was always ready and willing to help in any way. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts!

Cremation has taken place. They requested no funeral, rather a big celebration of life party, in the beloved back yard. Many great parties occurred in that backyard and a final goodbye couldn't be held in a better location. We will host a Celebration of Life on Saturday, April 20th, 2024, at 2:00 pm at 2825 Chanate SW. It will be a catered affair but please feel free to bring your adult beverages. We will need an head count so please RSVP to Morrison, 2825 Chanate SW. Albuquerque, NM 87105.

A Special Thanks to Shannon Bassham, their first granddaughter. Shannon provided loving care 24/7 for the last 5 months of their lives. Her help was a godsend and can never be repaid.
