With tremendous love and sorrow, we announce the passing of Kay Maltby Sullivan of Albuquerque, New Mexico, who passed away peacefully on Friday, April 24, 2026, at the age of 89. She was born on June 19, 1936, in Cherokee, Iowa, to her parents, Wayne and Helen Leonard.
Kay moved to Albuquerque with her family as a young girl. She graduated from Highland High School and attended the University of New Mexico, where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She later transferred to the University of Arizona, where she earned a degree in Elementary Education. Kay taught school in Berkeley, California, before taking time off to travel throughout Europe with three dear friends. She later returned to Albuquerque, where she married her devoted husband, William Sullivan, and raised two children. She was an avid traveler who loved to read and spent much of her time volunteering. Kay was very socially active, had many friends, and enjoyed participating in bridge games, book club, and golf outings. She was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, and friend, known for her beautiful smile, kind heart, and adventurous spirit.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, LouAnn; and by her beloved husband of 59 years, William Sullivan.
She is survived by her two children, Patrick Sullivan and his wife, Cori, and Bridget Self and her husband, Paul, as well as five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Kay will be laid to rest alongside her husband at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
