Albuquerque's Oma, Kathe Mirabal passed away at the age of 87, on Wednesday, February 11th, 2026. The eldest daughter of Wilhelm Dupont and Hedwig Stöeffel, Kathe was born in Ingelheim am Rhein, Germany in 1938.

Everyone knew her warm, giving energy. She took candy to doctor's offices, the grocery store and anyone who was nice to her. It was said she was the first to welcome and befriend several neighbors. She helped those she could as she could and remained curious and open throughout her life.

Kathe was always proud of her German heritage and was a proud member of the German American Club for many years. Head of German Culture, running the Kaffeeklatsch, managing the door and cooking food for hundreds were among her contributions to the club.

She was Oma to all through her support of the Albuquerque LGBTQ and Burlesque communities. She attended PFLAG Albuquerque Meetings, drag shows, Pride events and more. She took special pride in being mother and grandmother to those who had been rejected by their own families.

She is survived by her daughter, Corine Mirabal; daughter, Madie Mirabal and wife Stephanie Reinhard; granddaughter, Alexandra Mirabal and fiancé Chad Van Dam; great grand puppers; sister, Else Zehner; sister, Therese Bernhard and husband Horst Bernhard; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

A brilliant light has left this earth, but Kathe is rejoicing in heaven with her beloved son, Al; her parents, and many other family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Edelweiss am Rio Grande German American Club, 4821 Menaul NE., on Saturday, April 11th.  2026 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
