Joseph "Earl" DeBlassie, born on September 30, 1926, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2026, at the age of 99.  His long life was marked by his deep Catholic faith, quiet service, and unwavering devotion to family and community.  A dedicated member of San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church in Old Town Albuquerque, Earl offered countless hours of service to the parish he loved.  He helped prepare for the annual church fiestas each year and was often the one who opened the church in the early morning hours, ensuring its doors were ready to welcome all who came to pray.

Earl served his country with honor in the United States Army during World War II, entering active duty on December 1, 1944.  He was deployed to the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign as an Assistant Squad Leader during the liberation of the Philippines from Japanese occupation.  As a front-line scout, he worked alongside a Filipino scout, often exposed to enemy fire while gathering vital information for his unit during the battle of Luzon.  He witnessed many of his fellow soldiers wounded or killed and assisted medics whenever he could.  Earl was himself wounded in action and hospitalized before returning home.  He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant on November 22, 1946.

In recognition of his meritorious and dedicated service, Earl received the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, the World War II Victory Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.

After returning home from the war, Earl resided in San Francisco, California where he built a new life grounded in hard work, family, and faith. He was the youngest of nine siblings, a role that shaped his gentle humor, resilience, and strong sense of family throughout his long life.  He is survived by his daughters, Luchia Krahling and Ellie Meek; two grandchildren Stephanie Meek and Chris Meek and one great-grandson, Matthew.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, and friends who will remember him with deep affection.

Earl's Services will be at the Church of the Incarnation, 2309 Monterrey Road, NE; Rio Rancho NM 87144 on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, with a Rosary being recited at 10:00 am and the Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am. A Reception will follow in the Parish Hall at 11:30 am.

Burial will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 1900 Edith Blvd NE, Albuquerque NM 87102, on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at 10:00 am.
