Johnny Mondragon, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 9, 1948, in Mora, NM, Johnny lived a life full of love, dedication, and service.
Johnny was the cherished son of Leandro and Maria Mondragon, both of whom preceded him in death, along with his dear brother Robert and grandson Andrew.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Frances, who was the love of his life and his greatest joy. Together, they built a beautiful family, blessed with three children: Johnny and his spouse Wendy, Frankie and his spouse Daphne, and their daughter Georgette. Johnny was also a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense happiness into his world.
Johnny's service to his country was a significant chapter in his life. As a proud Army veteran, he served his country from 1968 to 1969, bravely participating in the Vietnam War. His dedication and patriotism were evident to all who knew him, and his service was a source of immense pride to him.
With a heart of gold, Johnny was known for his generosity and selflessness. He was always there to lend a helping hand, often putting the needs of others before his own. His family fondly remembers his knack for fixing anything and everything, often with his trusty roll of duct tape and baling wire by his side. From repairing cars to crafting handmade cribs for his grandchildren, Johnny's hands were never idle. His love for the outdoors was evident in his passion for fishing and gardening, and on any given day, he could be found tending to weeds with his characteristic determination. Johnny's love for his family was unparalleled. His wife Frances was the center of his universe, and he ensured she was always cared for. Seeing his grandchildren was the highlight of his days, and their presence brought a radiant smile to his face. Johnny had an uncanny ability to make everyone feel at peace, and those who met him were instantly drawn to his warmth and kindness. He treated everyone as if they were family. As we remember Johnny, we celebrate a life well-lived, a life that touched so many in profound ways. His legacy of love, kindness, and resilience will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. Johnny Mondragon's memory will forever be cherished, and his spirit will continue to guide and inspire us all.
