In Loving Memory of John Eric Wood
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved John Eric Wood, a cherished son, brother, cousin, and friend. John was the anchor of his family, a source of inspiration, strength, and love to those fortunate enough to know him. His presence brought meaning to the lives of his family members, and his legacy will live on through the many people whose lives he touched.
John was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Dorothy Vau Wood and John Weeks Wood, whose memory will forever remain a part of his family’s story.
He is survived by his six siblings: Gary Wood; Linda Block and her husband, Joel Block; Donald Wood; Mark Wood; Nancy Nuzzo and her husband, Sam Nuzzo; and Dr. Brian Wood and his wife, Kristen Wood. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and a large extended family that includes 32 first cousins who held a special place in his life.
John was a remarkable man whose life was a testament to courage, determination, faith, and the strength of the human spirit. At just 15 years of age, he became a quadriplegic, facing challenges that would have been difficult for anyone to imagine. Yet, he never allowed his circumstances to define his life. With the unwavering love and support of his family, he continued to live a full and meaningful life, inspiring everyone he met along the way.
Throughout his life, John achieved many things of which he and his family could be proud. He earned the distinguished rank of Eagle Scout, an accomplishment that reflects dedication, perseverance, and commitment. He was a proud graduate of West Mesa High School and he continued his education at TVI and the University of New Mexico and went on to work for many years at Sandia National Laboratories at the Department of Energy. His accomplishments stand as a testament to his determination and his ability to pursue a meaningful life despite the challenges he faced.
John’s unfailing love for Jesus was a guiding light throughout his life. His faith was an important part of who he was and provided strength and comfort throughout his journey. He was a member of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary, San Felipe de Neri, Calvary Chapel, and Legacy Church. His faith, perseverance, and strength of spirit were an inspiration to all who knew him. He demonstrated that true strength is not measured by physical ability, but by the courage, love, and faith with which we face life’s challenges.
A special acknowledgment of gratitude and love goes to Veronica Salazar, John’s devoted caregiver for 30 years. Veronica provided him with decades of compassionate care, kindness, and unwavering support. The love and compassion she showed him throughout those years were a precious gift, and her dedication will always be remembered and deeply appreciated by his family. We would also like to acknowledge Kim Fernandez and Savannah who were also special caregivers to John.
Though John’s passing leaves a profound sadness in the hearts of those who loved him, we take comfort in the faith he held dear and the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ. His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and his legacy of courage, faith, and inspiration will never be forgotten.
John will forever be remembered for the remarkable life he lived, the faith he carried in his heart, and the inspiration he was to everyone fortunate enough to have known him. Though he is no longer with us, the love he gave, the strength he demonstrated, and the memories he created will remain in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
