Jimmie Sue Swartwood (March 13, 1935 - October 8, 2023)

Jimmie Sue Swartwood was a deeply beloved wife, mother of six, grandmother of 12, and great grandmother of 10. Her laughter and bright energy were contagious and her kind demeanor was ever-present up through the day of her passing. Jimmie Sue passed away surrounded by loved ones at the age of 88 on October 8, 2023, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, after a 14 year battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Jimmie Sue was born in Belen, New Mexico on March 13, 1935 to Charles Culberson Haralson and Inez Snipes Haralson. She grew up with her sister Patricia Lou Haralson and her parents in Mountainair, New Mexico. After dropping out of high school, Jimmie Sue obtained her GED from the Albuquerque Technical Vocational Institute and became a supervisor at Mountain Bell Telephone Company where she worked until her retirement.

Jimmie Sue was married at the age of 16 on August 4th, 1951, to Edward Ray McBroom. Together they had six children, four boys and two girls. Throughout their marriage Jimmie Sue and Edward Ray lived with their family in Durango, Colorado, Las Vegas, New Mexico, and Albuquerque, New Mexico. They divorced in 1972.

On August 31, 1984, Jimmie Sue was remarried to Robert (Bob) Monroe Swartwood in the backyard of their Albuquerque home. They loved square dancing, traveling, playing card and dice games, and hosting holiday gatherings in their home for Jimmie Sue's loved ones and descendants. Their marriage was full of love and mutual admiration.

Jimmie Sue was a woman of many talents. During her life she sang with the Sweet Adelines, made clothing by hand, and created beautiful works of stained glass art. She loved coffee, doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles, and spending time with her family. She will always be remembered for her endearing nature and the way she called her loved ones "honey," "precious," and "darlin'." We couldn't have asked for a better mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She will be missed dearly.

Jimmie Sue was preceded in death by her first husband Edward Ray McBroom, her sister Patricia Lou Hollon, her brother in-law Nathan Hollon, her second husband Bob Swartwood, her son Jessee McBroom, and her daughter in-law KC McBroom. She is survived by her sons Jimmy McBroom, John McBroom, and Joe McBroom; her daughters Jana Martinez and Joyce Buxton; her grandchildren Steven McBroom, Bryan McBroom, Jacob McBroom, Jared McBroom, Jacquelynn VanderPol, Joseph McBroom, James McBroom, Joshua McBroom, Sara Martinez, Max Martinez, Rhonda Buxton, and Darrell Buxton; and her 10 great grandchildren and other loved ones. Jimmie Sue's memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved her.

An intimate joint memorial was held with family on October 28th, 2023 celebrating the lives of Jimmie Sue, her son Jessee McBroom, and her daughter in-law KC McBroom in the backyard of Jimmie Sue's Albuquerque home.
