JANE GERE HOUSMAN

Jane Gere Housman died at her home Wednesday, August 30, 2023, surrounded by her family and loved ones, following a long bout with cancer.

Jane was born in Albuquerque's old Southwest Presbyterian Sanitarium on April 20, 1936, and remained a citizen of the Duke City all her life.  She graduated from Albuquerque High, sang in the St. Cecelia Choir at St. John's Episcopal Cathedral, worked for a decade at the Albuquerque National Bank, and was a lifetime seamstress and master quilter who spent many years with Ann Silva's Bernina Sewing Center, which included teaching quilting classes nearly to the end of her life.  She was extremely talented and creative, and many a home and office are graced with her quilts and hangings.  Family members still wear her shirts and sweaters that she crafted decades ago.  She especially enjoyed creating costumes and food and event props for her sons' school programs.  The real hearse and the witch costume were classic.  She loved horses and dogs and cats, not to mention her pet skunk and ducks and burro and both Billy and Charlie the parrots.  Chloe the cat was with her at the end. She travelled around the world and enjoyed many a trip with all generations of her family, anywhere and everywhere.

She was predeceased in death by her parents, Opal and Raymond Gere, and long-time partner, Woodrow "Mac" McKinley.  She is survived by her sons, Carl Housman (and wife Amanda) and Reese Housman (and wife Pamela), her brother, Ray Gere (and wife Elaine), and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Her ashes will be interred at Sunset Memorial Park, beside the graves of her maternal grandparents.

Many thanks are expressed to all her friends, neighbors, colleagues, and family members who helped and supported Jane on her final journey on this mortal coil – too many to name but none forgotten by her very grateful family.  Such is a fitting tribute to one who herself was extremely generous and caring, especially for those numerous souls for whom she cared at the end of their lives. May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, Rest In Peace. A private family service will be held.
