Obituary

We are deeply saddened to announce the death of James Eric Davies 75, a long time Albuquerque resident, retired Sandia National Labs Software Engineer and laughter loving brother, father, husband and grandfather. Jim, as he liked to be called, passed away peacefully at home on February 4th,  2026 following a years-long struggle with his health. He leaves behind a life defined by a sharp wit, a dry sense of humor, a passionate respect for nature and a lifetime of caring for his family and extended family with hard work, honesty and integrity.

Born to Lula Mae Lancaster and Philip Davies, in Washington D.C. on May 15, 1950, Jim grew up back East in Virginia as a "nonconformist" of the sixties, where he first discovered his passion for exploring the wilderness. He chose to spend most of his life in New Mexico because of its' natural beauty, mountains and hiking access. As a hardcore believer of good tenancy on or off trail, he expected everyone to follow back country etiquette no matter if you were in a Jemez Forest or the Grand Canyon.

Jim will be profoundly missed by his wife, family and friends who during his life, had the privilege of sharing his love of music (Muddy Waters, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Van Morrison and many more), playing games (Scrabble, Risk, Chess, puzzles, scavenger hunts, and video games to name a few), gardening, fish ponds, and of course, his knowledge of history. As an avid reader his entire life, sharing his love of books with his grandchildren was one of his great joys. Jim will always be remembered by those who loved him for his special laughter, that could evolve into an endearing snort while quoting lines from Monty Python!

Jim is survived by his sister, Lynn Davies; his brother, Joe Davies; his loving wife of almost 40 years, Brenda Passariello Davies; his two sons, Jeffrey Davies and Jeremy Davies; his two step daughters, Colleen Corrie and significant other Ernest Culver, and Bernadette Gronewold and husband Ryan Gronewold; his step grandchildren, Tyler Gronewold and partner Elise Richter, Lily Gronewold and Xander Gronewold, and by his wonderful in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Jim has requested no funeral be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to: Arbor Day Foundation, arborday.org
