James C Sampson Jr. "Jim", age 78, passed away on Wednesday, February 15 2023 at his favorite place, his property at Monte Aplanado near Mora, New Mexico.

Jim lived in Las Vegas, New Mexico since age 1. He graduated from Denver University with a degree in Political Science and a minor in music and drama. He was a mason since 1975 with affiliations at Chapman's Lodge in Las Vegas, Sandia Mountain Lodge and Temple Lodge 6. He was Past master of Sandia Mountain Lodge in 2001. He was active in the Ballut Abyad Shrine serving in the Ritual Staff, the Azayim and the Chanters and was a member of York Rite. As well, Jim was very active in the insurance business since 1968 and obtained CPCU, ARM, CIC and AU certifications. He worked for several agencies and companies and retired from his agency Insurance Specialists.

Jim was an avid sports fan, golfer, hunter, photographer, hiker, backpacker, history buff, guitar player, singer, songwriter, musical theater actor, and collector of many things. Jim will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, James and Lucille Sampson. James is survived by his wife, Jan; daughters, Sarah (Jim) Holder and Catherine (Alfred) Kahsin; grandchildren, Katie and Zach Holder; his cousins, Ronald (Mada) Jones, Joan (Mike) Murray, John and Clarence (Gloria) Sampson.

A masonic memorial service is planned at Ballut Abyad Shrine located at 6600 Zuni Rd SE Alb, NM 87108, on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 11:00 am.
