Isabel "Chavelita" Lucero age 93, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 8, 2026 after a long illness with Dementia.
Isabel, the second child of eleven siblings, was born September 13, 1932 in Gallina, New Mexico to parents, Max and Trinidad Jacquez.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe (Billy) Lucero; her daughter, Tina Montoya; her grandsons, Marvin Montoya and Adrian Lucero; by her parents and numerous siblings.
Chavelita is survived by her daughters, Trinny Aragon and husband Agustin; JoAnn  Rodriguez and husband Adrian, Dolores Lucero Chavez and husband Michael; son, Larry Lucero; sisters, Sylvia Middleton, Mary Espinoza Gutuirrez and husband Bobby; brother, Phillip Jacquez and wife Lita; brothers-in- law, Gilbert Salazer, Filimon Serrano and wife Alice; grandchildren, LeAnn and husband Antonio, Robert and wife Sara, James and wife Erica, Leondra, Julian, Larry Joseph and wife Jazmin; grandchildren, Starr,  Amber,  Tiana, Elijah, Gregorio and Lisa; great-grandchildren, Nathaniel, Ashlee, Janelle, Ivan, Mia, Sunny, Larry Jr. Dorian, Zarriah and Eset; as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins, other family members and friends who loved and will miss her greatly.
Isabel was a long time resident of the Albuquerque South Valley. She lived a simple life, but it was a life lived in deep faith, prayer, giving, love for her family, and making every stranger she met into a friend.
Her devotion to Our Blessed Mother, Padre Pio, St. Anthony and as she often would say, "my heavenly choirs of Angels and Saints", allowed her to face life's challenges with quiet strength and courage.
Isabel was a homemaker, and babysitting was something she enjoyed.  If they weren't her grandchildren, great grandchildren or nieces/nephews, oftentimes they were children of neighbors and friends, but she never said no and was always readily available to help out.  Not only would she feed them, read and play with them but also would teach them to pray.
Isabel prayed thousands of rosaries in her lifetime. I believe all of those rosaries were never for herself, but for every person in her life.  She attended mass daily either in person or would watch it on T.V. If she wasn't watching her Novelas and crocheting, she was watching EWTN. Isabel was never hesitant to share her faith with anyone that came into her home.  She gave freely and with an open heart; a bowl of beans and a tortilla or offering a couch to sleep on if you needed a place.  What was hers was yours!  The only thing she asked was a simple "Pray for me".
Her open heart and home allowed her to have a community of friends wherever she went. She touched their hearts with her mild manner and infectious smile.
Isabel may have lived a simple life, but it was a life lived in giving and loving unconditionally.  She left a huge void and will be truly missed.
To Spanish Trails Rehab, Nevaeh Hospice staff and CNA's, on behalf of our family we extend our sincere thank you and most definitely appreciate the care and love you bestowed upon our sweet Mama. She was lovingly referred to as Chavelita, Mamacita, Grandma, lighting up her face and giving you a smile. You made her feel at home and part of your families. You are all in our prayers.
Tony and Lorraine, from day one you were there for her.  Although words are not enough to express our gratitude for all you did for Mom, comforting her, sharing stories and music with her, feeding her sweet treats, that would all make her day!

Services will be held at St Therese Catholic Church, 4th and Mildred NW. The Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at 6:00 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at 9:00 am. The interment will follow at The Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12:30 pm, where she will be laid to rest with her late husband, Joe.
