Irene Martinez was called home on Sunday, September 19th , 2021 after a long battle with cancer.

She left behind her husband, Rudy; son, Lucas; daughter in law, Monette; grandson, Ignacio;  granddaughters, DeAnza, Lexy and many more that she loved and adored.

Irene took pride in her family, especially with her siblings. Pat was a huge help when Irene became sick. Pat stood by her side through the toughest days, and shared plenty of smiles and laughter to brighten the darkest of times. Alice and Nora constantly provided a shoulder to lean on and spoke with Irene daily just to checkup and make sure she was doing well. Roger played the father figure for Irene and always knew what to say when she needed to talk to someone. Olivia also provided comfort when needed. Irene was blessed with tons of grandchildren and great grandchildren that were brought into her life and she cherished and adored them deeply; Andrew, Andrea, Chellsie, Benito, Cassandra, Claudine and Santana, to name a few.

Grandma Olga became Irene's companion during her hardest days with comfort and care. Irene also received weekly visits and calls from Dorothy, a lifelong friend who traveled from Espanola and brought Irene her favorites, like tamales and biscochitos, they would sit and pray and talk about the good days during these visits. Irene is resting now. She gets to see many people we could only see in our dreams. I hope the beans from her brother Danny comfort the welcome she had in heaven. The hugs from gramita Lucy, John and baby Johnny, Rita and Alex warm her soul and invite her to everlasting peace. We will hurt down here, but there's peace knowing you're at rest and free.

Services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, 205 Don Fernando St. Taos, NM 87571 on Saturday, October 2nd , 2021 at 10:00 am with burial to follow.
