Huguette B. Johnston

October 30, 1958 - October 16, 2025

Huguette B. Johnston "Getty", age 66, died of natural causes on Thursday, October 16, 2025, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. A longtime resident of Albuquerque, Huguette was born October 30, 1958, in New York, New York to Hugh and Suzanne Johnston. She graduated from Princeton High School in Princeton, New Jersey in 1976 and graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1981 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She earned an Associate of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Albuquerque in 1984 and then began a lengthy career in nursing in Albuquerque and in other cities in New Mexico.

Huguette retired from nursing in 2021 after recovering from a second occurrence of breast cancer. She was an enthusiastic supporter of the physicians and staff at the UNM Cancer Center, where she received excellent care over many years.

Huguette had many friends in Albuquerque and beyond. She was an avid gardener, pet owner, and lifelong artist. She loved and lived exuberantly, and she will be deeply missed. Getty enjoyed visiting friends and family. In particular, she loved visiting the New Jersey shore and attending live music events, she attended concerts throughout the Southwest.

Huguette is survived by her twin sister, Claire Johnston; sister, Fran Johnston and her wife, Laura Peck; nephews, Lucas Johnston-Peck and Miguel Johnston-Peck and by her friends.

There will be funeral services held at San Ignacio Church,1300 Walter St NE Albuquerque, NM 87102 on Friday, March 6, 2026. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Following the Mass there will be a short interment ceremony at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd NE Albuquerque, NM 87107. There will be a Celebration of Life for Huguette later in the afternoon at 2:00 pm. The family invites her friends to attend: The location is D.H. Lescombes Winery & Bistro, 901 Rio Grande Blvd. NW, #B100, 87104.
