Horace M
Guthrie
Mar 14, 1939 — Nov 21, 2023
Albuquerque
Horace M. Guthrie was born March 14, 1939 in Sidney, Texas. He passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2023.
Guided by his Faith, Dad devoted long hours to Bible study, coming to know it like the back of his hand. He drew his life philosophy from Ecclesiastes, specifically 12:8. We'll fondly remember the countless times we heard "All is Vanity." He wanted Ecclesiastes 12, Psalm 90 and Job 14:1-2 read at his passing.
He raised bargain hunting at garage sales to a fine art. Not for accumulation, but as a challenge to see how much profit he could turn, relating many ventures to us with pure glee. He had a deep yearning to see what was beyond the next horizon, to get out and drive, preferring the free and open roads of the West.
Those who knew him well will no doubt remember his fondness for a good joke and seeing the funny side of life, all of which was sadly lessened after the tragic loss of his two sons. Dedicated to his family his whole life, his daughter Reatha's last words to him were to not worry and that we'd be fine. He raised us to know this to be true.
He proudly and honorably served his country in the Air Force and felt a deep appreciation for them caring for him in return, through the VA. He will be interred at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe.
Horace was preceded in death by his parents, Tom T. and B. Lois Guthrie; siblings, Tom R., B. Louise, E.M., Betty J. and F. Dwayne; sons, Larry T. Guthrie and Jason T. Guthrie; his son-in-law, Christopher B. Kidwell and by Rita F. Bowen, mother of Larry and Reatha.
He is lovingly survived by his daughters, Reatha A. McCarroll and Melissa R. Kidwell; daughter in law, Patricia A. Guthrie; Wanda F. Guthrie, mother of Jason and Melissa; grandchildren, Charles Aguirre, Melanie Aguirre, Kristy McCarroll and Heather Carillo; great grandchildren, Charlie Aguirre, Brysen Wagy, Khloe Kindleburger, Damon Carillo, Ayden Carillo and Bear Aguirre; as well as many other family members and friends who loved and will miss him.
