Everett "Ralph"
Robertson Jr.
Feb 9, 1956 — Feb 21, 2021
Albuquerque
Everett "Ralph" Robertson, Jr. was born February 9, 1956 in Beirut, Lebanon. He died peacefully and surrounded by his sister and friends, February 21, 2021 after a brief battle with cancer. He is survived by his sister, Mirion Robertson and thousands of friends from around the globe who knew him for his compassion, caring and sense of humor.
Ralph spent the first years of his life in the communities of Tapline in Saudi Arabia, living in Turaif, Badanah, and Rafha. He attended school first on Tapline and then in Beirut, Lebanon at the Salesian School for Boys.
He attended Castle Heights Military Academy in Lebanon, Tennessee, graduating in 1974 when he moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico to begin college at University of New Mexico. At UNM, he studied his life-long passion, photography as well as computer programming and calculus. It was in Albuquerque that he discovered another passion – cartography and surveying both of which launched a career that took him all over the globe and spanned decades right up until shortly before he died.
Ralph worked for Geophysical Services, Inc. beginning in 1980 while still attending survey school and ended up returning to Saudi Arabia in that capacity in 1982. In 1986, he left GSI and began working directly for Saudi Aramco – a job which took him all over the region, from the eastern province to the Rub' al Khali.
Upon his return to Albuquerque in the mid-1990s, he worked throughout the southwestern United States first with Survey Control, Inc. and then finally with Cobb Fendley. Both jobs gave him ample opportunity to enjoy the open road. He would fly if he needed to get somewhere fast, but he vastly preferred to drive so that he could enjoy discovering new places and new experiences along the way.
Inspired by the wide-open spaces of the Saudi desert of his youth, he was an avid motorcycle enthusiast both off-road and street. A sure stop wherever he went in the world was the nearest Harley Davidson dealership and he had the t-shirts to prove it. Hundreds of them.
Above all, however, Ralph loved and enjoyed all the people he met wherever he went. He never met a stranger, was always more interested in others' lives than his own, was quick with an illustrative story or a willing ear, and he met people wherever they were. And he could always make you laugh.
Ralph will be sorely missed by the countless lives he touched all over the world. We are better for having known him.
