It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Evangeline Sedillo, age 68.  "Vangie" passed away peacefully at home on April 24, 2023 after a short battle with Cancer.  Vangie was a believer in Christ and walked with God in her daily life.  We have no doubt that she will have eternal life with the Lord.

Vangie was born in Albuquerque and was the fourth of seven children. As a child, she was raised in Old Town, and went to San Felipe Catholic School, then graduated from Rio Grande High School after her Dad moved the family to southwest Albuquerque.

Vangie attended the University of New Mexico (UNM) where she obtained a bachelors degree in 1977.  After obtaining her teaching license, she embarked upon a career in Early Childhood Education at Albuquerque Public Schools (APS) that spanned 35 years. During that time, she received a Masters degree in 1982. In order to become fully bilingual, she spent a summer in Mexico City and immersed herself in the language and the culture.  Upon her return, she taught at Painted Sky Elementary and had an after-school Mexican dance program for many years.   Vangie was a gifted teacher and was Mrs. Gavaldon, then Mrs. Sedillo to her students.  She touched the lives of many children and her former students always stopped and chatted when they saw her around Albuquerque.

In her retirement, Vangie continued to be involved.  She was an APS substitute teacher for several years and up until her illness, she continued blessing children by teaching an after-school Bible club class in the APS school system.   She was also an avid volunteer and active in her Church.  She was part of the Homeless Ministry and Legacy Grandparents ministry. Vangie had many interests including Swimming, Camping, Bicycling, Gardening, Kayaking and Traveling (particularly the Beach and the Mountains).  She was a very generous gift giver, especially to her nieces and nephews.  Above all, Vangie loved spending time with her friends, family, and her church family.

As Vangie's health quickly declined, including a massive stroke along with Pancreatic Cancer, her loving husband, Larry Sedillo, with the help of Hospice Care and her family, cared for Vangie at home until her death.  Despite her limitations from the stroke, she continued to receive and communicate with her constant stream of visitors.  She was well aware of everyone that visited and appreciated the prayers, food, gifts, and well wishes.

Vangie is survived by her husband, Larry Sedillo; son, Jason Gavaldon of Denver; step-daughter Celeste Harris; step-grandchildren Noelle and Tim; step-great grandchild Aaliyah; her siblings, Dorothy Velasquez (Victor), Geraldine Chavez, Debbie Silva, and Angela Campos (Al); sister-in-law, Katy Lucero; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Ida Perea; brother Teddy Perea; sister Annabelle Silva; and stepson Nickolas Sedillo.

The funeral will be held Thursday May, 11th 2023 at 11 A.M. Calvary Church Westside, 6051 Winter Haven Rd NW, 87120. A Reception will follow at Promise Community Church, 3803 Atrisco Dr NW #B, 87120.
