Ernesto Montano was born on September 19, 1938 in Anton Chico, NM and passed away on April 21, 2025 at the age of 86. Ernesto was a devoted father, husband, grandfather, uncle and friend.
Ernesto worked for decades as a buyer of wholesale sporting goods for Zork Hardware and Mountain States Sporting Goods. He also held second jobs working for the Albuquerque Duke's and cleaning offices. He eventually changed careers and worked selling travel goods for Zarfa's Luggage and retired from Leiber's Luggage.
He enjoyed playing the guitar. He was a faithful man and served the Lord many years by playing his guitar at the Spanish mass at San Martin de Porres and Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary churches, attending Crucillos, and participating in Marriage Enrichment weekends. In addition to playing the guitar, he also enjoyed camping, fishing and playing cards with his friends and family, traveling the United States, and going dancing at the Senior Citizen Centers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Dario and Antonia Montano, and his brothers, Manuel, Juan and Carlos Montano. He is survived by his partner: Anita Romero; his children: Brian Montano and wife Anabelle, Yvonne Segovia and husband Henry, and Janet Serna and husband Doug; his grandchildren: Randy Vigil and wife Cecilia, Shamaine Griego and husband Robert, Celina Griego and husband Brandon, Tomas Segovia and wife Aniqa, Sam Segovia, and Ava Montano; his eleven great-grandchildren and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
A rosary will be held on Sunday, April 27, 2025 at 6:00 pm at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Church. The resurrection mass will be held on Monday, April 28, 2025 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Church, followed by the burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery and Mausoleum. A reception will be held at the Moose Lodge at approximately 1:00 pm on April 28, 2025.
