Eleanor "Tecia" Volz

Eleanor "Tecia" Volz, 93, of Albuquerque, NM and formerly of Spofford, NH passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 25, 2023 surrounded by her loved ones.

Tecia was born January 9th, 1930, in Spofford, NH to Arvid (Pat) and Eleanor (Ellie) Pearson. Tecia went to a one room schoolhouse in their small town on the lake until she started high school. She was a very good student and skipped third grade. She met the father of her children, Charles Volz, in Spofford while he was there on vacation. They were married in Spofford in 1948 and had their first child in 1949. Soon after, they moved to Queens, NYC, where Charles was from, and had four more children there. Every summer Tecia would take the children to Spofford to spend time with her parents and to enjoy the lake. After 15 years of living in NYC, they started looking for a better place to raise a family. Through a friend they discovered Albuquerque.

In December 1964, Tecia and Charles moved to Albuquerque, NM with their five children, and pregnant with their sixth. They went on to have two more children here in Albuquerque for a total of eight. Tecia enjoyed her life in the North Valley, surrounded by horses, ponies, a goat, chickens, ducks and, of course, cats and dogs. She had a huge heart and never met an animal or a person she wouldn't take under her wing when needed. Tecia was very passionate about politics, actively campaigning and hosting many candidate gatherings or functions at her home. She loved dancing and music, and encouraged all of her children to play an instrument.

At 48 she decided to pursue nursing, becoming an LPN in 1978 and then an RN in 1988. She spent her entire 30+ year career as an NICU nurse, at Presbyterian Hospital, then Lovelace Women's Hospital. She touched many new families as they dealt with their premature or very ill infant.

Tecia was preceded in death by her sister, Isabelle Mann, daughters Elizabeth (Liza) Volz and Thea Tzamaloukas, as well as her grandson Asa Myers. Tecia is survived by her children: James (Jim) Volz, Linda Volz Carson, Tecia Dimond, Laura Volz Aldrich, Gretchen Volz, Victoria Gosselin and Clark Simones; grandchildren: Peter Wakeland, Schuyler Volz, Jacob Volz, Scott Dimond, Jessica Belisle, Calley Satriana, David Tzamaloukas, Hayden Acosta, Lilah Baca, and Isabelle Tzamaloukas; 8 great-grandchildren, 3 nieces, 2 nephews, and so many others who knew and loved her as "Mom" or "Granny".

Tecia's celebration of life will be held Saturday April 15 ^th , at 9:00 am at Mount Calvary Cemetery Chapel. The family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in Tecia's memory to Animal Humane New Mexico using their online donation center or sent to their main campus at 615 Virginia St. SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108.
