Obituary

David Michael Newman

June 22, 1956 - February 5, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of David Michael Newman, who left this world suddenly and tragically on Monday, February 5, 2024, at the age of 67. A victim of a senseless hit-and-run, David's departure has left a void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him and has left a community in shock.

David was born in Newburyport, Massachusetts and grew up nearby in Arlington. He honorably served his country as a veteran of the United States Marine Corps where he spent most of his service at Marine Corps Base Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.  Eventually moving with his family to Erie, PA, he was known as the fun Uncle Davy, always taking his children, nieces and nephews on road trips in his camper. Later in life he moved to the southwest and enjoyed the freedom of his moped, occasionally testing his luck at the local casinos, and the comradery of his community of veterans at Veteran's Independent Living of Albuquerque.

David leaves behind his daughter, Jennifer Newman; step-daughters, Lesley Jackson and the late Beth Smith; his siblings, Linwood G. Newman Jr., Catherine A Barry, John E. Newman, the late Marianne L Biagioni, and Janelle Newman. His son, Matthew Michael Newman, preceded him in death, a loss that deeply touched David's heart.  In facing the tragedy of losing both Matthew and now David, the Newman family draws strength from the incredible legacy of resilience they left behind. As we mourn David's passing, we also remember Matthew, and we celebrate the impact they have both left on our hearts and lives.

A funeral service will be held at St. Agnes in Arlington, Massachusetts on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 11:30am, where the family welcomes your attendance. This gathering will be a time to honor David's memory, reflect on the joy he brought into our lives, and support each other in grief. In lieu of flowers, please would you consider donating in David's memory to Semper Fi & America's Fund or a veterans' support charity.

As we say goodbye to David, we hold tight to the memories, and the love he shared. We also renew our commitment to seeking justice for David. The search for the individual responsible for this horrendous crime continues, driven by a collective determination to ensure accountability and honor David's memory. Rest in peace, David. You, alongside Matthew, will forever be in our thoughts and hearts.
