David Hunter Faires died in February of 2023, in Sandia Park, New Mexico.

He was born in El Paso in March of 1952 and despite being a military brat he spent much of his life in the Southwest Texas and New Mexico areas.

He graduated from Burges High School, class of 1970 and let his love of music and working with his hands to produce it, shape the rest of his life.  He was a gifted tenor and sang in the Choir of the Southwest in El Paso as well as in the Church choir at First Presbyterian Church, in his youth. Later in life he played for folk festivals, Burns night suppers and the Albuquerque folk festival, among others, where he could display his guitar and banjo skills that also featured his musical companion on viola and violin.

David was known for his sense of humor, wry smile, encyclopedic memory (especially for obscure song lyrics and poems) and his love for animals, many of whom he rescued from natural disasters and also socialized puppies as potential Guide Dogs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hunter and Mary Faires of El Paso as well as his younger brother, Richard and he is survived by his sister, Laura Faires Krioukov now of Mur-de-Barrez, France.

David's ashes have been scattered in the landscape he loved, in wild New Mexico, and in the words of one of his favorite artists, Dave Carter:

Do not worry for my comfort,

do not sorrow for me so,

all your diamond tears will rise up

and adorn the sky before me, when I go.

He is gone, but he touched too many lives (animal and human) to ever really be gone.
