U.S. Navy Veteran, Clarence A.  Herrera, age 75, died peacefully at his home on Friday, May 17, 2024, with his wife and son by his side.  He was born in Carnuel, New Mexico, on March 30, 1949, to parents, Jose D. and Florinda Herrera.

He is survived by his wife, Diana of 54 years; sister, Emma Cano; son, Steven Herrera; grandsons, Ray Herrera and wife Ceci; Ryan Herrera and wife Haley; great-granddaughters, Hazel and Willow Herrera; his beloved pet, Chika; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.  He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Pablo Herrera; sisters, Dorothy Garcia and Mercie Chavez.

Clarence honorably served his country as a member of the US Navy from 1968 to 1972, and worked as a machinist at General Electric Aviation for 32 years.

An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed exploring New Mexico, hiking the Sandias, hunting and fishing; and he did many of these activities with his faithful companion, Chika, by his side.

Clarence's passion for craftsmanship was evident in the many woodworking projects he created.  From building furniture to fashioning beautiful wood pieces called "palmas" used by Matachines in their performance of religious dances, he had a remarkable talent for turning ordinary materials into works of art.

As much as Clarence had his own interests and enjoyments, his greatest love was always his family.  He cherished the time he spent with them making wonderful memories.  He especially loved spending time with his great-granddaughters, whether it was having a tea party or playing with remote control cars, they filled his heart with joy.

Clarence will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will forever remain in our hearts.

Services will be held at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, 811 Guaymas Ave. NE. (Lomas west of Wyoming NE) on Tuesday, June 4, 2024. A Rosary will be recited at 10:30 am. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am.

A luncheon, following the service, will be held at the Herrera residence (directions will be provided at the service).

A private family burial will take place at a later date at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
