Charles "Charlie" John Montoya

1962 - 2025

Charles John Montoya "Charlie" was born August 24, 1962 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He passed away on Monday, September 29, 2025 after a long hard fought fight with diabetes.

Charlie worked as a retail grocer in Major Supermarkets in New Mexico and Kansas for many years. He will be forever remembered for his strong will, amazing work ethic and for always living a life filled with joy, laughter and love. He was one of the most helpful people who continuously gave and shared everything he could with others. In spite of his longtime battle with diabetes, Charlie always remained positive, with his true faith carrying him through all life's challenges. He never complained, kept a wonderful outlook on life and was always grateful and thankful, no matter the circumstances. Most of all, Charlie loved his beloved family and cherished celebrations with them and his many treasured friends. He was greatly loved and will be forever missed.

Charlie was preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis Cordova; his father, Salvador Montoya; siblings, Jerry, Don, Emilio, Joe and Flora.

He is lovingly survived by his partner of 40 years, Juan Hidalgo, with whom he lived an extraordinary life of fun and adventure. They traveled extensively, went camping and even lived their "Dream Come True", to see Diana Ross perform. Charlie loved Juan and had a very close relationship with his family, as well. Charlie is also lovingly survived by his four remaining siblings, Gina and Joe Smiel, Louise and Joe Chavez, Louie and Martha Montoya and Mary Ann Montoya; numerous nieces and nephews, with whom he had a special relationship and connection with each one.

Services will be held at St Joseph on the Rio Grande Catholic Church, 5901 St Joseph's Blvd. NW. on Wednesday, October 29, 2025. The Rosary will be recited at 8:15 am and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 am.
