It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Chano Ortiz, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who lived a long and joyful life. Chano was born on March 18, 1937, and spent his life building a legacy defined by hard work, dedication to his family, and a deep love for his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Chano was known by all who knew him as an incredibly hardworking man. Through the years, he took great pride in providing for his family and setting an example of perseverance, responsibility, and quiet strength. His work ethic and faith in Jesus Christ left a lasting impression on everyone around him.

He was a devoted father to five children, a proud grandfather to thirteen grandchildren, and a cherished great-grandfather to 20 great-grandchildren. He was a great brother and friend. His family was the center of his world, and he found immense joy in watching it grow across generations.

Chano especially loved living in Albuquerque's North Valley, where he spent countless hours tending to his garden and taking pride in the fruits of his labor. Some of his happiest moments were simple ones—warm summer evenings spent outside, surrounded by laughter and the presence of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Katie Ortiz; his parents Louisa and Clemente Ortiz,his daughter, Gen; his brothers, Gene, George, Luther; and his sisters, Emma, Mary and Ramona.

He is survived by his Brothers Frank and Ray.

His son Chris and wife Cathy Ortiz; son-in-law Robert Armijo; daughter Ida and son-in-law Ricky Sanchez; daughter Karlene and son-in-law Bobby Sanchez; and daughter Charlene and son-in-law Nick Cremonese, along with his thirteen grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren who will continue to carry his memory forward.

Chano Ortiz will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him. His legacy of hard work, devotion to family, and love for the North Valley will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Direct Funeral Services, 2919 4 Th. St. NW.  A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at 9:15 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:15 am at St. Jude Parish, 5712 Paradise Blvd. NW. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
