Casey Michael Pendergast skated in with a spark on January 5, 1984. He sent the world for a ride and brought the rest of us along with him. The universe, in an unexpected trick, took him from us too soon on February 21, 2025.

Casey was born to James and Melanie (Martin) Pendergast in Binghamton, New York. Ironically, he was born four years, to the day, after his older brother, Shaun, who he cherished. The family moved to Syracuse, NY, when Casey was just three. It was here that he spent much of his adolescence, bonding with his brother over video games, discovering and developing his love for skateboarding and the community that comes with it.

Moving to Wisconsin as a teenager, Casey attended Verona Area High School. There he explored many art forms, recognizing the expression art allowed. Realizing the desire to make a future in some form of this craft, he took advantage of any offered course. Pottery soon outshone all other styles and topics. Casey had an incredible talent for creating sculpted earthenware. High School also gave him lifelong friends with whom he forged deep bonds. He graduated from Verona Area High School in 2002.

Another gift from his time at VAHS was meeting classmate Rebecca Hefty. Although friends initially, on their very last day of High School they caught sight of what might become something really great. From that moment on they were together, and great it was! Becky, too, was an artist who found solace in her passion for ceramics. In pursuit of their shared love of pottery, Casey and Becky moved to New Mexico in 2003, where he would earn his Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts degree in 2007 from The University of New Mexico. It was here that he really honed his art by studying the Arita Porcelain method for many years. Throughout this time Casey was employed at the University of New Mexico Hospital as well; he was just shy of 22 years of service. He proved to be a reliable and calming employee, spending the duration of his time with UNMH in the Emergency Department. Casey and Becky exchanged marital vows on the 2012 Autumnal Equinox, September 22, pledging their hearts to one another in a beautiful and heart-warming ceremony.

Casey was known for always carrying a 'stash' of toys (Tech Decks, Nerf guns, yoyo's, bouncy balls, and anything else he could find) in his fanny pack or pockets. He was a kid at heart and just wanted to share joy and smiles with all around him. He loved visiting Wisconsin to spend time with family. He was devoted to his niece and nephews, showering them with playtime shenanigans from the moment each was old enough to toddle his way. Even as they grew and thought they were too mature to 'play,' Casey persisted in his adventurous ways. Naturally drawn to him, pure fun and belly laughs that left them doubled over would soon follow. Uncle Casey was always a guarantee for an interesting, memorable time!

Casey will forever be missed by his adoring wife, Rebecca Pendergast, and his fur babies, Ginko and YoYo. He is further survived by his father James Pendergast; brother Shaun (Hyemi) Pendergast; father- and mother-in-law, Ronald and Diane Hefty; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Melissa and Brian Hollis, Sr.; nephew, Brian Hollis, Jr. (Brigid Heller); niece, Maizy (Trent) Baumgartner; nephew, Brayden Hollis (Macey Grant); aunts, uncles, cousins, colleagues, and many close friends.

Casey was preceded in death by his mother, Melanie Pendergast; brother-in-law, Nicholas Hefty; his maternal and paternal grandparents; and his beloved pet children, Spooky and Fikus.

There will be a Festival of Remembrance on March 1, 2025 at the Rio Bravo Brewing Company in Old Town, Albuquerque from 4:00 pm to close for all to share stories, laughs, and tears about our beloved Casey. Celebrations in Wisconsin and New York will be planned for later dates; details will be shared as available.
