It is with a profound sense of loss that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Carol Ann Herig, who departed from this world on Thursday, February 8, 2024, surrounded by the love of her family, at her home in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. She was 88 years old.

Born in the picturesque town of Saranac Lake, New York, Carol was a vibrant soul with an outgoing personality, a deep love for reading, and an unwavering spirit of independence. Her zest for life was infectious, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.

As the proud mother of three children, Stacy Herig (Ralph Davidson), Tug Herig (Jocelyn), and Andy Herig (Lisa), and the cherished grandmother of seven grandchildren, Scott Montoya (Melissa), Shelby Herig (Kevin Herrity), Dani Sorenson (Kurt), Mitch Herig, Kevin Herig (Kayla), Drew Herig, and Alex Herig, Carol's home was a haven of warmth, laughter, and intellectual curiosity. Her love for reading was a constant in her life, and she shared this passion with her family, instilling in them a lifelong love for literature and the power of the written word.

The love and wisdom Carol imparted on her family will continue to resonate through the lives of her nine great-grandchildren, Logan and Chase Montoya, Ryker Herig Herrity, Ava, Noelle, Liv, and Jude Sorenson, and Tripp and Saylor Herig. Her memory will forever be cherished as a guiding light, leading future generations with the same strength and compassion she exemplified throughout her life.

Carol's independence and adventurous spirit were evident in her love for travel and exploration. Whether it was immersing herself in the pages of a novel or embarking on a cross-country move, she embraced life's adventures with open arms. Her courage and determination inspired those around her, leaving an enduring legacy of resilience.

A passionate music lover, Carol found joy in the art of singing. Her melodious voice filled the air with warmth, and her love for music created lasting memories for her family and friends. Her legacy will be echoed in the notes of songs that bring comfort and nostalgia to those who had the privilege of hearing her sing.

Carol's heart also held a special place for animals, and she found immense joy in their companionship. In honor of her love for furry friends, the family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the animal shelter and rescue Watermelon Mountain Ranch. Carol's compassion for animals reflected the kindness and warmth that defined her character.

In accordance with Carol's wishes, there will be no formal service. Instead, the family encourages everyone to celebrate her life in their own unique way, perhaps by losing themselves in a good book, singing a favorite song, or spending time with cherished pets.

As we say our final goodbyes, let us remember Carol Ann Herig for her outgoing spirit, love of literature, independence, musical talents, and her deep affection for animals. Cremation has taken place. No services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the animal shelter and rescue Watermelon Mountain Ranch, a cause close to Carol's heart.
