Bobby Jane Whiting

June 25, 1942 – February 27, 2025

Bobby Jane Whiting, age 82, of Bosque Farms, New Mexico, went home to be with our Lord on February 27, 2025. She was full of life and could always bring a smile to others!

Bobby is preceded in death by her sisters, Pauline Cox, Mildred (Millie) Katharine Garms and Nancy Meyer; brothers, John Whiting, Frank Whiting and James Whiting; father, John Whiting; mother, Missouri (Bob) Avaletta Whiting and by her niece, Patricia (Pat) Jean Dunnagan.

She is survived by her nieces, Belinda Pratt (Steve), Nancy Marie Cain (Joe), Kathy Jane Kitchens (Terry) and Fritzi Garms-Martinez (Martin);  nephews, Bucky Cox (Chris), Joe Cox (Jannette), Carl Meyer (Colette), Mark Meyer and David Meyer (Tambri) as well as many other relatives.

Bobby was born on June 25, 1942 in Roy, New Mexico. She was the youngest of seven children and a surprise to her parents. With all those older siblings, she enjoyed a pampered life growing up. She loved playing school sports, especially baseball. She was known for her mischievous pranks.

Bobby moved from Roy to Tucumcari with her parents at 17 years old. After graduating high school, she managed the Leatherwood Manor Motel, then the Taco Hut. She later managed the Odeon Theater and owned and operated an answering service using an old style telephone switchboard (one ringy dingy....). While living in Bosque Farms, she opened a miniature golf course and quickly discovered that if you want a lot of rain, just open up a Putt Putt!  I guess you could say that Bobby was a "Jane of all trades"!

Eventually, Bobby moved to Roswell. There, she found her true passion, dealing antiques. She had numerous shops in Roswell, Socorro, Belen and Bosque Farms. She was blessed to enjoy this passion for her entire life. Her second passion was gardening! Bobby was a "home-grown" New Mexican and loved Mexican food, especially Green Chile Enchiladas and Green Chile Grits! She also enjoyed watching football and baseball, and TV game shows like Password and Wheel of Fortune.

For her nieces, she was more of a big sister than an aunt, so she was just called "Bobby". She loved animals and in Tucumcari, rescued a baby pig from the street gutter during a downpour, naming it Tojo. Tojo loved to be held and would squeal with joy. She kept little Tojo until he wasn't little any longer and adopted him out to a local farmer.

Bobby made numerous friends wherever she went. She was beloved by her whole family who cherished her dry but witty sense of humor and her contagious laugh. She enjoyed eliciting giggles from others right up until her very last day. We will all miss her dearly, but are happy she is enjoying her forever home in Heaven with our Lord, family and friends.

There will be a graveside service Monday, March 17, 2025 at 1:30 PM at the Mosquero Cemetery, followed by a gathering at the Mosquero Community Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to an animal shelter or Alzheimer care or research center.
