With deep love and gratitude, the family of Bessie Lee Gonzales announces her passing on Saturday, June 27, 2026. She was born on January 11, 1947, Bessie lived a life defined by devotion to her family, quiet strength, and a generous heart that touched everyone who knew her.
Bessie is survived by her sons Dean Mortensen, Shane Mortensen, and Aaron Mortensen. Dean and his wife Janice are the parents of Ryan (Anna), Cody (Kelsey), and Kelli. Ryan and Anna's children—Ryanna, Ryan, and Faith—and Cody and Kelsey's children—Kash, Corbyn, and Clayton. Shane and Elisa Begay are the parents of Shanae, Keith, and Allison. Aaron and his wife Katelyn are the parents of Chad and Brylinn, and their late son, Truett.
She is also survived by her brother Wayne Richardson and his wife Jackie, along with their children Shannon, Susan, and Tina; and by her sister Margaret Anne Goke, with her daughters LeAnn (Mike Stober) and Jolene (Monty Pacheco).
Bessie was preceded in death by her beloved grandson Truett Lee Mortensen; her loving husband Leo Gonzales; her parents Hubert Lee "Buck" and Evelyn Richardson; her brother‑in‑law Hank Goke; Bill Mortensen; Hillard and Wynona Mortensen; and many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who passed before her. She carried each of them in her heart throughout her life.
A woman of faith, resilience, and kindness, Bessie created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unconditional love. Her legacy lives on in the generations she nurtured, the friendships she cultivated, and the countless lives she touched with her gentle spirit.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 275 Avenida de Bernalillo, Bernalillo, NM 87004
A reception will follow at Algodones Elementary School, 1399 Hwy 313 Algodones, NM 8700.
The family invites all who knew and loved Bessie to join in celebrating her life.
