Angie G. Chavez

April 26, 1939 – April 12, 2026

She was born in San Bernardino, California, to John and Josephine Rivas, and was raised in Artesia, New Mexico. Angie graduated from Bernalillo High School and went on to make her home in various parts of New Mexico, as well as in Aberdeen, Washington.

Angie was preceded in death by her parents and her stepfather, Victor Molinar; her beloved spouses, Thomas Griego, Joe Chavez, and Dennis Maupin; her brother, Salomon; her sisters, Vickie and Mickie; and her devoted companion, her dog Mitzy. She is survived by her brother, John, and her sisters, Sylvia and Alice. She also leaves behind her loving children, Thomas Griego, Genevieve Griego, James Griego, and Diane Montano; her deeply cherished grandchildren, Regina Griego, Stephanie Rodriguez, Thomas Griego, and Elias Montano; and her great-grandchildren, Alexa Griego Rodriguez and Luna Griego Rodriguez. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.

Angie will always be remembered for her radiant smile, infectious laughter, and caring, generous heart. She devoted her life to caring for others, working diligently as a caregiver to the sick and elderly. Her love extended especially to children, as she taught catechism and worked as a teacher's aide with elementary school students.

She found great joy in music, often singing and playing the piano and guitar. Angie was rarely without a song in her heart and loved to dance—she would often say it helped you live longer. She also enjoyed spending time at the casino, delighting in trying her luck. She loved enchiladas and frijoles, and her family will forever miss her cooking as well as her warm, loving hugs.

Angie lived a humble life marked by strength, resilience, and unwavering love. Her compassion, laughter, and beautiful spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. As the heart of her family, her legacy will endure as a beloved sister, mother, grandmother, nana, and auntie. She will be deeply missed every day.

Mass will be held at the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.  9:00 AM; 9502 Fourth Street, NW, Albuquerque, NM 87114.
